I’m Oladimeji “Ladi” Akinwande, an Academic Counselor helping to build a brighter future for NYC youth.

I believe the decisions we make at each stage of our education can have a profound impact on who we are and who we become. When I began my career, I knew that my own path in education would be the foundation through which I viewed the world around me.

My journey began in the public schools of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, where I experienced challenges and triumphs in equal measure. After receiving my B.A. in Communications from Brooklyn College, I began developing programs to help students transition to college life. Founding Next Level Council has allowed me to draw on my own experiences navigating the complexities of our educational system, and to help others anticipate their paths forward.

My work has included facilitating workshops and symposiums, and developing culturally responsive pedagogical curricula for students who are encountering a complex, and ever-changing educational landscape.

Through Next Level Council, I've been able to connect with and inspire students and educators alike. I have been, and continue to be, an athlete, actor, and songwriter - and each of these roles has given me unique tools to engage with the world. Each role I’ve played enhances my work, and helps me help those looking to get to the next level.
